In The Works: Azimeh / عزيمه

  • PACT Centre for Emerging Artists 107 Railway Parade Erskineville, NSW, 2043 Australia (map)

In the Works provides a vital platform for artists to share ideas, test forms, and connect with audiences through a series of short works nights. In 2026, PACT will present three editions of In the Works across February, April and October, each curated by members of PACT’s Associate Artists team. This program exists in direct response to the ongoing lack of opportunities for emerging artists to develop and present new work.

This next iteration of In the Works is curated by Victoria Hunt and Claudia Chidiac.

Azimeh / عزيمه (ah-zee-meh) is an Arabic word for a gathering — an invitation to come together. Azimeh / عزيمه is a gathering in response to the fuckery of the world.

When things feel fractured, uncertain and increasingly difficult to make sense of, what does it mean to gather? To make art? To eat together? To sit with what is happening around us and with each other?

Bringing together Nicole Barakat, Rosie Belvie, Adeeb Razzouk and Jenny Trinh, Azimeh / عزيمه is an evening of works, food and conversation — a gathering not despite the world we find ourselves in, but because of it.

Azimeh / عزيمه doesn’t propose gathering as an answer to the world we find ourselves in. It begins with something simpler: in response to it, we come together.

- Victoria and Claudia

The night continues beyond the works, with every ticket including a shared meal in PACT’s courtyard. Gather together with the artists to eat and unpack the work and what it means to make art in this increasingly uncertain world.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
