MARKETING & ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

We are seeking a Marketing & Engagement Manager to join our team at PACT Centre for Emerging Artists.

Driving innovation and creativity in our public relations, we are looking for an experienced communicator who leads with values, has a passion for developing and implementing marketing and engagement strategy, knowledge of the performing arts sector, and a desire to play a role in supporting the development of artists and our local community.

To be successful in the role, you will have enthusiasm for the work of our artists, imaginative ways to develop audience and community participation in our program, experience in strategy development and implementation, and an ability to craft engaging digital and written content.

Over the next year PACT will deliver a full calendar of artist residencies, mentorships and labs to support the development of new work, performance seasons in our iconic warehouse theatre, community engagement projects, mainstage productions of commissioned work, and more.

Since 1964 PACT has been the place where artists meet and new discoveries are made. Our vision is to provide a launchpad and testing ground for the emerging and experimental artists who will transform Australia’s stages, screens, and galleries.

PACT is an Incorporated Association and governed by a Board of Directors. PACT receives annual program funding from the NSW State Government through Create NSW and is supported by the City of Sydney through an accommodation grant. PACT sources project funding from multiple sources including Creative Australia, Create NSW, the City of Sydney, philanthropic foundations and direct donations.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title Marketing and Engagement Manager

Hours 0.6 FTE or 22.5 hours per week (note: the position is required to work out of hours and weekends when required; office hours 10am-6pm; flexible work arrangements available)

Basis of employment 12-month contract with option to extend subject to funding

Salary $60-70k p.a. pro rata commensurate with experience; plus 11% superannuation

Reports to Operations Manager

Employment conditions 20 days annual leave and 10 days personal leave p.a. pro rata; time-in-lieu for overtime

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Marketing & Engagement Manager is a key role at PACT, providing communications, digital and print content, publicity, and community engagement expertise across our artistic program and organisation.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role works closely with PACT’s producing team. The role is responsible for driving engagement across all the organisation’s activities and implementing project and organisational marketing and communications plans, digital content, brand management, and developing relationships and effective communication with a range of stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing & communications

• Lead the development, management and implementation of marketing and communications strategies for the promotion of PACT’s artistic program and fundraising activities with the aim to grow organisational awareness, develop audiences and participation, and engage community.

• Drive innovation and creativity in PACT’s marketing and communications and build a consistent brand identity for PACT across all marketing and communications materials.

• Develop and deliver imaginative, high-quality marketing and engagement content including, but not limited to, advertising, direct marketing, collateral, press releases, publicity, annual report, and digital marketing and content including managing the organisation’s website.

• Lead ticket sales and reporting, including collaborating with the Operations Manager and producing team to design pricing structures and policies to meet access and audience objectives that reflect market/industry research and trends.

• Scope, develop and manage marketing budgets in consultation with the Operations Manager and Executive Director/CEO, including tracking income, expenditure, and reconciliation in a timely and accurate manner.

• Develop and maintain PACT’s CRM including subscribers, artists, donors, etc.

• Develop and implement strategies to grow PACT’s philanthropic, sponsorship and individual giving programs; and manage the organisation’s communications with donors.

• Oversee and collaborate with key contractors as required, e.g. external publicist, graphic designer, videographer, photographer.

• Ensure best practice standards and cultural protocols are followed when working on First Nations and disability programming.

• Prepare evaluations, reports and analysis to ensure projects meet their goals and targets.

• Work to improve organisational and office policies/procedures in line with PACT’s values.

Relationship management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with the media.

• Contribute to high quality internal and external relationships by working collaboratively and professionally with key PACT stakeholders including, for example, PACT and project employees, artists, crew, community, and local, state and national government bodies; liaise with sponsors, partners, funders and artists to ensure marketing acknowledgements are met.

• Provide marketing support and guidance to emerging artists as required.

• Undertake general duties as required to support the coordination and smooth running of the PACT team, including contributing to staff meetings, undertaking training as required, and office administration.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a marketing and communications role preferably in the arts or events; or a combination of tertiary qualifications in marketing/communications or arts management with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a marketing and communications role.

  • Skills in strategic thinking and demonstrated experience in project and/or organisational strategy development and implementation.

  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to build community and influence internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience creating a variety of marketing materials including website, direct marketing, social media, collateral, reports, etc.

  • Highly developed financial and project management skills including budget development and control, evaluation and reporting, managing simultaneous projects to deadline and with attention to detail.

  • Enthusiastic and hard-working attitude and commitment to the flexible hours inherent in the arts.

  • Proficiency in WCMC (Squarespace), marketing software (Mailchimp), CRM management (Hubspot), video and sound editing, and graphic design (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Canva).

Desirable

  • Strong understanding of the performing arts sector in Australia and associated trends.

  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising strategy including donor, sponsor, and philanthropy development.

  • Knowledge of and experience in community development and engagement principles.
