PACT LAB: Revival!

Combining stories of humour, danger and pathos from two virtuosos of contemporary performance, REVIVAL! is a rare opportunity to revisit a work. Join talented artists Vicki Van Hout, Martin del Amo and Marcus Whale in a creative development lab at PACT Centre for Emerging Artists, where you will have the opportunity to develop a past work, learn from industry mentors and network with fellow artists. PACT invites artists from diverse backgrounds and differing art disciplines to apply for this lab.

About the artists:

Vicki Van Hout: Vicki is a Wiradjuri woman born on the south coast of NSW. An independent choreographer, performance-maker and teacher, Vicki has toured nationally and internationally, most recently with her critically acclaimed solo Plenty Serious Talk Talk. A graduate of NAISDA and the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York, Vicki was awarded the 2014 NSW Dance Fellowship – the first Indigenous winner of the Fellowship – and the 2019 Australia Council AwardCombining stories of humour, danger and pathos from two virtuosos of contemporary performance,

Martin Del Amo: Martin is a Sydney-based choreographer and dancer with more than 25 years of professional experience. He started out as solo artist, acclaimed for his full-length solos fusing idiosyncratic movement and intimate storytelling. Over the last decade, Martin has also built a strong reputation as creator of group works and solos for others. Programmed by all major presenters in NSW, including Sydney Opera House and Carriageworks, his work has toured nationally in Australia and internationally to the UK, Japan and Brazil. Martin regularly teaches for a wide range of arts organisations and companies, and has extensively worked as mentor, dramaturg, movement consultant and dance writer. His contributions to the Australian arts sector have been recognised with the prestigious Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship (2015) and the Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance (2018).

In the Revival! workshop, Martin focuses on movement, text and sound alongside artist Marcus Whale. Together, they will explorer improvisational and compositional strategies with the lab participants to integrate movement, spoken text and sound in performance. The focus will be on the interplay between physical and vocal scores.

Amy Flannery: Amy Flannery is a First Nations Australian creator and performer. Amy completed her training in dance at NAISDA Dance College. After graduating from NAISDA, she has performed, choreographed and composed for a number of independent productions, including Lost All Sorts Collective, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Jannawi Dance Clan, Dance Makers Collective, Erth Visual and Physical, and Wagana Aboriginal Dancers.

Amy has spent time building skills and delving into a range of technologies to craft a personal creative voice. She is currently the recipient of the David Page Music Fellowship at Bangarra Dance Theatre and has previously been with the Australian Ballet Education Team as a cadet. Amy has recently been in production at The Sydney Opera House with a new interactive children's performance choreographed by Emily Flannery called Bulnuruwanha. Amy collaborated with Dance Makers Collective and South East Dance in Brighton for their new artists exchange program which took her to the UK for the development of Emma Harrison's new dance work.

Jye Uren: Jye is a proud Descendent of the Worimi and Dunghutti peoples and holds lineage to Biripi and Yorta Yorta country as well as tracing his Family Ancestry back to Kernow(Cornwall), Éire(Ireland), Cymru(Wales) and Portugal. Jye was born on Awabakal Country and raised on Worimi Country surrounded by Sand and Saltwater.

Since graduating from NIDA in 2017 with a “Diploma of Professional Careers in Dance”, Jye has worked as an independent Artist with one of Aotearoa's leading Contemporary Dance Companies, (Atamira Dance Company), with whom he performed at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and the Tempo Festival in Auckland. He has also spent the duration of 2019 as a Dancer with Bangarra Dance Theatre touring regionally and nationally in Australia and then internationally to Canada and America (Turtle Island) under the direction of Stephen Page and Frances Rings.

Jye now works as an independent Artist and First Nations Tour Guide at the Australian Museum. He is also a founding member of “Lost All Sorts Collective” (LASC), working alongside 4 other Indigenous Artists to create new Dance Theatre works, instilling Indigenous Stories, Views and Practices in a Contemporary framework.


Marcus Whale:
Marcus lives and works on Gadigal land in Sydney, Australia. His work across music, performance and writing focuses on the experience of desire and devotion, often with reference to aesthetics of horror, as well as religious iconography, liturgy and ritual. As a musical artist under his own name and with groups Collarbones and BV, his recorded output primarily forms an electronic world around the voice. Solo album The Hunger, a vampire story, was nominated for the 2021 Australian Music Prize. Performance works including Possession, The Hunger, Lucifer, In The Mood and Praise! have been presented by Performance Space, Asia Topa, Next Wave, Sydney Opera House, Sugar Mountain Festival, Underbelly Arts Festival. As a composer he has contributed to works for stage and screen by Angela Goh, Martin Del Amo, Vonne Patiag, Jane Campion, Paul Mac, Harriet Gillies & Xanthe Dobbie, Ivan Cheng and Kane Gaundar.
