Launched in 2018, Generations features a work by an early career artist alongside a work by an established artist. Generations encourages greater dialogue between generations of artists and will contextualise work by early career artists within a broader framework. Generations 2019 will premiere ‘Sport Olympia’ by emerging performance collective Big Muscles Sad Heart; and ‘Arena’ by Martin del Amo and Anton.
Big Muscles Sad Heart is a newly formed Sydney-based theatre collective made up of Caitlin Doyle-Markwick, Matte Rochford, Sarah Easterman and Sabrina D’Angelo. The group produces bold new work that tackles contemporary issues such as the unemployment system and other systems that profit off the misery of the most vulnerable in society. Big Muscles Sad Heart will develop ‘Sport Olympia’ a new work exploring the notions of competition, categorisation and perfectionism in sport.
‘Arena’ is an ongoing collaboration between director/choreographer Martin del Amo and performer Anton. Both artists have extensive and renowned International careers. With ‘Arena’, del Amo and Anton seek to unravel the mechanisms behind the performance making processes while simultaneously seducing the audience into suspending their disbelief and providing them with an enticing theatrical experience. Both artists are extending their practice by integrating spoken text and theatrical forms into the choreographic elements of ‘Arena’.
