New Mardi Gras Festival
PACT Theatre
became a constellation of signs and symbols, a sparkling assemblage of
young performers/writers navigating the complex terrain of sexuality and
cultural difference. Working with artist/director Karen Therese, the team
of 7 used autobiographical material in their investigations of taboos
around sexuality and cultural heritage, colliding worlds.

Urban Theatre Projects
Short 'n'
Sharp was a short works event initiated by UTP. PACT Artistic Directors
curated the 2005 season. The project combined popular culture with contemporary
performance and hybrid forms. It was a great opportunity for emerging
artists from Sydney and Western Sydney to try out in front of a different
audience demographic.

11 participants
worked closely with dancer/performance artist Martin del Amo and designer
Kate Shanahan to investigate the nature of performance and the place of
the individual within a group structure.

A Neighbourhood
Project with Alexandra Park Community School and Cellblock Health Services
Gathering
Words was a creative partnership with Alexandria Park Community School.
Sound artist Simon Ronk, hiphop artist Ebony Williams, physical theatre
artist Lee Wilson and community arts worker Karen Therese spent creative
time with 12 young people over 5 weeks, facilitating a song writing process
and opening up different ways to get the body moving.

Media and Performance
A bizarre
and apocalyptic performance presented by The Studio, Sydney Opera House.
PACT's major
work for 2005 was created by 19 young performance makers (19-26 years)
working closely with a team of professional artists. The work asked us
to consider this moment in time and the future of the planet, before it's
too late. It took its inspiration from Dante's Divine Comedy and
human beings' voracious desire to consume and be consumed.

Mentorship Program
In 2005 VACANT
ROOM focused on 'writing for performance'.
Dramaturg and writer Bryoni Trezise facilitated a collaborative writing
process with a small group of young writers over one month. The work will
feed into Toxic Dreams, a 2006 PACT project.
