Carla Zimbler captures, dissects and warps imagery to shift boundaries and carve passageways into surreal worlds, building transformative environments which aid in ones experience of sound and spatial awareness. Carla mixes live visuals, manipulates video ‘particles’ to float, shrink and grow and projection maps pools of vivid colour to surfaces, sculptures and building façades. Carla began engaging with projection as a medium during study in Eastern Iceland in total darkness. It was a way to lighten up bleak surroundings and lift emotional states throughout winter. As a result, Carla started to design and build sensory experiences and meditative spaces for audiences through sound, touch and vision. Carla has most recently exhibited at Melbourne Music Week, Distortion Festival (DK), Soft Centre, ACMI and performed at LungA Festival (ICE), Dour Festival (BEL), Paradise Festival, Listen Out, The Hills are Alive, BIGSOUND and Field Day.
